This website uses open data and open-source software. We thank everyone who makes them available. This page lists every third-party component in the website files and the data behind the wind farm map, with its licence.

Data

OpenStreetMap

Wind farm locations and names on the map, and region names for wind farms without a published name (OpenStreetMap Nominatim), come from OpenStreetMap. Map data © OpenStreetMap contributors, available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

The WindNext public site list (assets/windnext_public_sites.geojson) is derived in part from OpenStreetMap data, so the ODbL also applies to the OpenStreetMap part of that list. Wind farm data © OpenStreetMap contributors. The wind farm data is available under the Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0.

Base map tiles

The base map on the wind farm map uses raster tiles from MapTiler (MapTiler AG, Switzerland), style "Landscape". © MapTiler © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Copernicus DEM (terrain)

The ridge and terrain analysis uses the Copernicus DEM GLO-30 and GLO-90. Global Wind Atlas

Mean wind speeds from the Global Wind Atlas v4, a free, web-based application developed, owned and operated by the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), released in partnership with the World Bank Group, using data provided by Vortex and funding provided by the Energy Sector Management Assistance Program (ESMAP). globalwindatlas.info, licence CC BY 4.0.

Other figures

The household equivalent on the map uses 3.6 MWh of electricity per household per year, the EU average per dwelling from ODYSSEE-MURE. Sources quoted on the home page (US Department of Justice, franceinfo, BNatSchG §45b) are cited for information only.
